Accessibility Statement

Updated · May 2026

The Law Office of J.M. Chema Garza is committed to delivering a website that works for as many people as possible, including those with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive disabilities. This statement describes the measures we take and the resources available to anyone who encounters barriers on the site.

Our commitment

We believe that access to legal information is a fundamental right of every person in South Texas, and we work to make this site usable by visitors who rely on assistive technology or who prefer alternative modes of interaction. Accessibility is part of how we design and maintain the site, not an afterthought.

Conformance target

Our conformance target is WCAG 2.1 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, version 2.1, success criteria at levels A and AA). This is an ongoing effort: we measure conformance periodically and improve the areas where we find gaps.

Features implemented

The site incorporates the following accessibility practices:

  • Semantic HTML and clearly labeled landmark regions.
  • Full keyboard navigation for every interactive element.
  • Visible focus indicators on links, buttons, and form fields.
  • A skip-to-content link at the top of each page.
  • Color contrast that meets Level AA on body text and interactive elements.
  • Alt text on informational images and aria-hidden on decorative images.
  • Language toggle (English/Spanish) with the correct lang attribute on each page.
  • Heading hierarchy without skipped levels.
  • ARIA labels on icon-only buttons (social links, language toggle, menu).
  • Respect for the user's reduced-motion preference (prefers-reduced-motion).

Known limitations

Some legacy PDF documents from earlier site iterations may not be fully tagged for screen readers. If you encounter a document that is not accessible to you, the firm will provide an accessible alternate format on request.

Third-party content

Embedded Google Maps and WhatsApp handoffs are operated by third parties and are governed by their own accessibility statements. We cannot guarantee the level of accessibility of those services, but we try to provide alternatives (for example, listing the mailing address as text in addition to the map).

Ongoing improvements

The site is audited using both automated tools and manual reviews to identify accessibility barriers. We apply fixes on a continuous basis and schedule periodic reviews as standards evolve and new technologies are introduced.

Alternative formats

If you need the content of the site in a different format, we can provide printed, large-print, plain-text, or audio summaries. Tell us which format you prefer when you contact the firm.

Office accessibility

Our office in Rio Grande City is located on the ground floor, with a level entry and nearby parking available. If you need help reaching or entering the building, please call ahead and we will gladly arrange assistance for your arrival.
