The Law Office of J.M. Chema Garza will accept pro bono asylum referrals from the RGV Pro Bono Asylum Project beginning in fall 2025.
Rio Grande City, TX. The Law Office of J.M. Chema Garza has joined the volunteer attorney roster of the RGV Pro Bono Asylum Project, an initiative that places asylum-seekers detained or in removal proceedings in the Valley with bilingual counsel at no cost.
The firm will accept up to four pro bono cases per year through the project, with priority given to families with minor children and to applicants with strong country-conditions records.
"Asylum work is some of the most consequential legal work an attorney can do, and bilingual counsel in the Valley is scarce," said founding attorney J.M. "Chema" Garza. "Our office is proud to commit time to it."
